A Culinary Exploration of the Borderlands and Camp Naco - Series of Intercultural Cooking Classes and Resulting Cookbook

Marilyn Noble is an accomplished journalist, author, and food writer with over 25 years of experience in storytelling focused on food, agriculture, culture, and history. Her work has appeared in national outlets such as The Counter, Edible Communities, and CNN, and she has published several cookbooks highlighting the cuisine of the Southwest. For her Naco Heritage Alliance Fellowship project, Noble proposes a literary nonfiction book that intertwines historical research and personal narrative to explore Camp Naco and its surrounding communities. The project aims to uncover overlooked stories of the region—particularly those of African American soldiers and Mexican American residents—while reflecting on broader themes of place, identity, and resilience. Drawing from her background in narrative journalism and cultural writing, Noble will craft a compelling, accessible work that preserves the borderlands’ history through vivid prose and community-informed storytelling.
