Unbelievable Borderlands Dinner & Fundraiser
Friday, October 16 • 5:30 PM • Camp Naco
Kick off the Unbelievable Borderlands weekend with a special evening at Camp Naco featuring a tasting journey by Tarra Lazos Creative through the flavors and foodways of the Borderlands.
Inspired by Black Buffalo Soldiers, Indigenous Arizona, and Sonoran traditions, the menu brings together mesquite, tepary beans, blue corn, prickly pear, chiles, smoked meats, and café de olla—an evening where history, place, and food come together.

Two days of stories, discovery, and Borderlands culture.
Spend the weekend exploring the people, places, wildlife, history, and creativity that make the Borderlands extraordinary. Saturday features a full day of programs throughout Camp Naco, followed by live music, with additional tours, films, and experiences continuing Sunday.
Saturday, October 17
The festival kicks off at 9:00 AM at the Camp Naco Stage with the Presentation of Colors by Tombstone High School JROTC and welcoming remarks from special guests. From there, explore programs happening across Camp Naco throughout the day, followed by a special musical event featuring Gertie & the T.O. Boyz from 6:00–8:00 PM.
Sunday, October 18
Come back Sunday morning for another chance to explore the Borderlands, including a day trip to Cananea, documentary screenings, a Camp Naco guided tour, and closing reflections with Jeremy Fricke, Executive Director & Keynote Speaker.

Experience the Borderlands through the stories we share, the food we gather around, and the landscapes that have sustained generations. We are honored to welcome Indigenous foodways expert Jeffrey Lazos-Ferns and the Tarra Lazos Creative collective to the Unbelievable Borderlands Festival for two unforgettable culinary experiences.
Through a storytelling-driven tasting experience and guided Plant Walk & Tasting, guests will explore the connections between Indigenous foodways, Black culinary traditions, and the regional flavors of Sonora. From traditional ingredients to the stories held within the landscape, these experiences invite guests to discover the Borderlands through culture, community, and connection.

Get ready to dance with Gertie and the T.O. Boyz, bringing the joyful, infectious sounds of traditional Tohono O’odham Waila music to the Unbelievable Borderlands Festival. Led by Gertrude “Gertie” Lopez, the “Queen of Waila,” the band carries on a musical tradition rooted in the Tohono O’odham Nation and generations of family, community, and celebration.
A longtime performer and advocate for preserving and sharing Waila music, Gertie has brought this music to audiences across Arizona and around the country. Her goal is to share the beauty, joy, language, and culture of the Tohono O’odham people through music—and we’re thrilled to welcome her and the T.O. Boyz to Camp Naco.
