Communications & Marketing Associate (Part-Time)

Position Summary
The Communications & Marketing Associate is an execution-focused role responsible for producing, distributing, and maintaining communications materials across Naco Heritage Alliance platforms. This position supports organizational visibility and consistency by carrying out defined marketing and outreach tasks under the direction of the Executive Director and within established plans, priorities, and timelines.


While this role may contribute ideas and observations during team discussions, responsibility for communications strategy, priorities, and final decisions rests with the Executive Director.


Position Details
  • Employment Type: Part-time (10–20 hrs/week, dependent on campaigns and projects)
  • Location: Bisbee/Naco, AZ (in-person, hybrid, or remote). Candidates who are not regularly on-site must be able to efficiently coordinate photography and videography for programs and events in collaboration with staff, partners, or contractors.
  • Reports To: Executive Director.  Works under the direction of the Executive Director, who sets communications strategy and priorities.
  • Compensation: $20-25/hr depending on qualifications
  • Schedule: Flexible, with work paced around program calendars, events, and campaign deadlines


Primary Responsibilities

Program & Event Marketing (Execution-Focused)

  • Produce and maintain program marketing kits, including posters, print ads, press releases, and digital assets using approved templates and messaging.
  • Execute distribution of materials, including sharing digital materials with partner organizations, and supporting print and digital outreach efforts as directed
  • Draft and distribute press releases based on provided information and approved messaging.
  • Support communications execution for campaigns, grand openings, and major initiatives as scheduled.

Digital Communications & Content Execution

  • Implement updates to website content, including minor edits, new pages, and event listings, and apply approved updates beyond basic edits as needed.
  • Execute basic social media posting, including resharing aligned partner and community content, posting relevant holidays, days in history, recycled newsletter content,and photos and documentation from programs, events, and campaigns.
  • Support monthly newsletter production and other organizational publications, including content assembly, layout formatting, and draft preparation.

Documentation & Media Coordination

  • Collect, organize, and archive photos,video documentation, and digital communication files for marketing, reporting, and outreach purposes.
  • Assist with the coordination and execution of promotional video content using the provided direction and scope.
  • For candidates working remotely, ensure timely coordination and acquisition of photos and video through planning, communication, and collaboration with onsite staff, partners, or contractors.
  • Communicate with media partners (print and digital media) to ensure that communications materials are distributed in accordance with deadlines. 

Outreach & Production Support

  • Execute print and digital outreach tasks, including coordination of translations when needed.
  • Support newsletter layout and design using existing formats and tools.
  • Assist with postering and community-facing visibility efforts.
  • Support distribution and tracking of VIP event invitations and targeted outreach materials as directed.

Collaboration & Team Support

  • Contribute observations and ideas to team discussions around communications and outreach, informed by cultural awareness and community context.
  • Attend staff meetings and planning sessions as requested.
  • Support cross-departmental communications tasks and time-limited projects as assigned.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Demonstrated experience in communications, marketing, outreach, or a related field through education, professional work, or equivalent experience.

Skills & Competencies

  • Exceptional organizational, multitasking, and time‑management skills.
  • Strong written communication skills across print, digital, and email formats.
  • Comfort working with basic design tools, templates, and layout systems.
  • Experience executing content for websites and social media platforms.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks within limited weekly hours.
  • Ability to follow established direction, timelines, and feedback processes.
  • Familiarity with community-based, culturally responsive communication preferred.

About The Speaker Dr. Laura Hooton is an Assistant Professor and Director of Graduate Studies in the History Department at New Mexico State University. She teaches and writes about African American history, borderlands history, migration and immigration, and social movements and civil rights. She is the co-author of Almost All Aliens: Immigration, Race, and Colonialism in American History and Identity , Second Edition. Her next book, Little Liberia: A Dream of Black Freedom in the US-Mexico Borderlands , will be published this year.

Learn about the prehistoric residents of our region from the earliest residents who hunted now extinct mammoths through the first indigenous peoples who encountered explorers from Spain and the United States. January 23 - La Frontera: A History of Our Border Region Cochise County has always been a borderlands. From prehistoric times the mountains and valleys of the sky islands have been corridors for explorations and conquest. The first Spanish explorers traveled these pathways in the 16th Century. Mexico's battles for independence and then in revolution often focused on this northern frontier. The westward push for gold and Manifest Destiny established the current line. Learn how these stories still resonate and shape today's borderline. January 30 - A History of Conflict: Camp Naco, the Bisbee Deportation and World War I Our small section of the US-Mexico border has been the focus of major military and civil conflicts in the early 20th Century. Learn how the stories of these people and events intertwined in this small region of Cochise County and how work continues int he present to preserve this history.
