Program Associate (Part-Time)
Organizational Mission
The mission of the Naco Heritage Alliance is to reveal the hidden stories of human experience in the Borderlands by engaging communities, preserving the past, and educating the world as stewards of Camp Naco.
 
 
Position Summary
The Program Associate will support day‑to‑day operations by managing logistics for events and programs, coordinating and supporting volunteers, and supervising the Fellowship program. This role is critical to ensuring smooth, mission‑driven program delivery and strong volunteer engagement.
 
 Position Details
- Employment Type: Part‑time (approx. 20 hrs/week), Schedule Flexible, with some evenings/weekends for events
- Location: Bisbee/Naco, AZ
- Reports To: Executive Director
- Compensation: $17–20/hr depending on qualifications
Primary Responsibilities
- Program & Event Logistics
 ○ Coordinate all logistical aspects of programs, workshops, field visits, and events (venue and speaker booking, supply procurement, onsite setup).
 ○ Create and maintain detailed schedules, agendas, and communication materials as needed in collaboration with the communications team.
 ○ Provide onsite event support, manage technology setups, and coordinate with staff and partners.
- Volunteer Coordination
 ○ Recruit, train, schedule, and supervise volunteers for events and regular programs.
 ○ Maintain accurate volunteer records, monitor hours, and implement recognition strategies.
 ○ Act as the primary point of contact for volunteers, offering guidance and support to volunteer teams.
- Fellowship Program Supervision
 ○ Manage scheduling and communication with Fellowship applicants and alumni.
 ○ Facilitate Fellows’ integration into programming and ensure alignment with organizational mission.
 ○ Monitor project timelines, collect documentation of Fellowship activities, and prepare brief status reports.
- Operational & Administrative Support
 ○ Draft communications to promote programs – content for emails, newsletters, social media posts.
 ○ Maintain databases for events, volunteers, Fellows, and contacts; ensure data integrity.
 ○ Support general office tasks: responding to inquiries, ordering supplies, organizing meetings as needed.
- Other Duties as Assigned
 ○ Travel as needed. Most travel will be in the Bisbee area, Cochise County, or Southern Arizona. Travel outside the immediate area will generally be able to be scheduled in advance.
 ○ Attend meetings with staff and various advisory groups.
Qualifications
 
 - Education & Experience
 ○ Demonstrable experience and/or education to manage projects and work with people of different backgrounds.
- Skills & Competencies
 ○ Exceptional organizational, multitasking, and time‑management skills.
 ○ Excellent written and verbal communication.
 ○ Comfortable with program/event coordination, database management, and tech tools, including but not limited to facilitating virtual programming
 ○ Experience with volunteer coordination best practices.
 ○ Project Management Software (Such as Monday.com)
 ○ Google Suite/Microsoft Office
 ○ Ability to travel in Southern Arizona as needed
 ○ Familiarity with humanities and social sciences of the borderlands is preferred.
 ○ Bilingual - English/Spanish strongly preferred

This one-hour, national documentary tells the astonishing, heartbreaking, inspiring, and largely-untold story of Native Americans in the United States military. Come learn more about Native Americans and their stories related to the military and the United States. Food will also be provided at the event by Tee Pee Fry Bread, offering plenty of options, from sweet to savory. Come and celebrate the legacy of the Buffalo Soldiers! The 2025 Tribute event, hosted by the Southwest Association of Buffalo Soldiers (SWABS) honors the legacy of the Buffalo Soldier Stamp with the theme:
 “The Buffalo Soldier Beyond the Call.”                                                                                            This memorable event features keynote speaker Colonel Richard “Dick” Toliver, USAF (Retired), a distinguished Air Force Veteran and author, as well as a presentation by National Buffalo Soldier Historian Dr. John P. Langellier, and the presentation of the SWABS Buffalo Soldier Legacy Award. With live entertainment by Freddie J with jazz, old-school R&B, and great food. Clues of the Past: Tales from a Camp Naco Archaeology Internship                        Thursday, May 29, 4:30pm                                                      915 South Tovreaville Road                                                                  Join two of our former interns, Madeline Colley and Hailey Smith (Cochise College), as they share a presentation of their experiences at the historic Camp Naco site. This is also a chance for the public to view a display of many of the artifacts they studied and documented over the course of the past 9 months.
